Back in Sudan once I say my full name I receive all the respect from the person who is standing in front me. This is not by luck or by coincidence. This respect is because of my grandfather’s achievements. Ahmed Makki Abdu one of was few Sudanese people who got the chance to rule Sudan while Great Britain was ruling Sudan. He started in an accounting job and ended up as the first Sudanese to become the governor of Khartoum state. Let’s look at the facts behind his success or actually behind choosing him to rule this important position at that sensitive time. Amed Makki has an ability that for the British was the most important factor for choosing him, which is the practical intelligence. He was able to convince people with his opinion and always to get the people to his side. He knew how to say, when to say, and to whom. He was the best example of a political person. Plus the practical intelligent, ha was open minded, and to be like that beck time in Sudan was very rare. British didn’t put him straight to his highest position, but after putting him through different careers. For example, they put him as the governor of Darfur, which is known it’s very hard situations, but he didn’t stumble and he proved his abilities. In Darfur he became very popular and loved by the people, and when people now ask why he was different than the others, the result showed that he was very kind to them and he made them feel like his just like them. For instance, he attended all the events, and even when the strong rain hits Darfur he go down to streets and help them to protect their state. The government was surprised with him to pass this setuation, so they decided to put as the first governed for Khartoum state. As a conclusion, Ahmed makki was an outlier in Sudan back then.
